Important Information for Students

When should you start?

Finding accommodation in Paris takes time. We recommend starting your search 3 to 4 months before your arrival. CROUS applications open several months in advance and fill up quickly. For Colivys and other private platforms, starting 6 to 8 weeks before your move-in date is ideal. If you arrive without confirmed housing, book temporary accommodation first (see below) and continue your search on the ground.

Budget and Pricing

Housing in Paris can be expensive. With Colivys, monthly rent for a furnished room typically ranges from €670 to €1,000, depending on the type of room and its location. Prices generally include utilities (electricity, water, Wi-Fi) and home insurance, with no hidden costs.

Security deposit (caution) Most landlords in Paris require a security deposit of one month’s rent, paid upon signing the lease. This amount is returned at the end of your stay, provided no damage has occurred. Colivys all-inclusive accommodations include this information transparently in their booking process.

Financial guarantor

International students may need a guarantor, either in France or abroad. Colivys simplifies this process, and in some cases, payment in advance may be required if no guarantor is available. If you don’t have a guarantor, services like Garantme can act as your financial guarantor after a quick online eligibility check (usually under 24h)

Housing insurance and civil liability

Students are responsible for any damage caused during their stay. Before moving in, students must take out civil liability and housing insurance, which is often included in Colivys all-inclusive accommodation.

Financial aid & discounts

Students may be eligible for housing allowance from the CAF (Caisse d’Allocations Familiales), called APL or ALS, which can significantly reduce your monthly rent. Colivys accommodations are eligible for APL. Additionally, use the promo code ISMAC100 when booking on Colivys to get a €100 discount (subject to availability).

Temporary accommodation (first days in Paris)

If you need a place to stay for your first few days or weeks while finalising your housing, consider youth hostels such as FUAJ or Paris Auberges de Jeunesse, or short-term rentals on Airbnb. These options give you flexibility while you settle in and complete the rental process.
